“I haven’t confirmed anyone, because Ventura was never under discussion,” Cairo told assembled media outside the Cairo Prize presentation in Milan.

“I haven’t confirmed anyone, because Ventura was never under discussion,” Cairo told assembled media outside the Cairo Prize presentation in Milan.
“He didn’t have to be confirmed. We’re not talking about a Coach, a President, players and a sporting director: we’re a group, one that has done excellent things with the Europa League, seventh-place and so many young people who are developing well.
“Just as it wasn’t all about Ventura a year or two ago when we were seventh or in the Europa League, today we don’t attribute all the faults to Ventura.
“He’s done excellent things for us, and I hope he can continue doing that in the coming years. So much so that we have a contract with him until 2018.
“You have to think of Ventura as a futurist, a [Umberto] Boccioni or [Giacomo] Balla because he innovates, and can see further than others.
“He’s had a 30-year career at this point, he’s always changed his style of play and adapted to new styles at the right time.”
