“Being third in the table is a great achievement, it makes us proud,” Cairo told Radio Uno.
“The Scudetto? We started out with other objectives. We don’t want to create illusions, and we don’t want to fly too close to the sun.

“It’s not easy to compete in the same League as clubs with a turnover which is five or six times what ours is. We have to continue as we have been, step-by-step.”
Toro managed a 2-1 victory over Palermo yesterday, despite being down to 10-men, and Cairo believes this exemplifies their fighting spirit.
“We saw the Toro heart. The team gave their heart and soul to defend the 2-1, recalling the tremendous Granata of [Gustavo] Giagnoni [in the 1970s].
“The combination of our sporting director [Gianluca] Petrachi and Coach [Giampiero] Ventura works. We’ve built a team with the right combination of youth and experience, investing in a lot of young Italian talent.
“Yesterday we had nine Italian players at the start of the match, lads with excellent potential, but on whom we shouldn’t put too much pressure.
“Andrea Belotti? Let’s give him time. He’ll give us great satisfaction, but you have to have the patience to wait.”
