FIGC President Carlo Tavecchio is glad the Scudetto race is “offering something different from the usual”.

Fiorentina are top of the pile, with Torino in third and Sassuolo the only unbeaten team in Serie A, and the Federation chief wouldn’t rule out a surprise winner.

“I’m pleased that the League is offering something different from the usual, without taking anything away from those who have won before,” Tavecchio told Gr Parlamento.

“It’s a more hard-fought tournament, with more teams challenging.

“The Scudetto to a small team? It could happen…”

Tavecchio then named Fiorentina and Napoli as possible contenders for the title.

“The Viola did very well yesterday [beating Inter 4-1]. Napoli played a great game [against Juventus], they’re a team that deserves it as they chose a good Italian Coach [Maurizio Sarri], and if the Scudetto arrives it would be a great achievement.”
