It was claimed there was a row between Donadoni and President Massimo Cellino over the failure to sign David Suazo.
It is now reported that Cagliari have formally requested the termination of his contract, which still runs until June 30, 2012.
President Cellino was infuriated by the interview Donadoni gave to La Repubblica newspaper in which he criticised the patron.
Donadoni was fired in August to make way for Massimo Ficcadenti.
