The Sardinians sent a letter to the Mayor of Quartu Sant’Elena, the area where the Is Arenas stadium is hosted, to confirm they were walking away from the structure and the three-year deal to host games there.
The stadium has been beset by problems that even saw President Massimo Cellino charged with fraud, while there are reports it could be knocked down as an unsafe structure.
Today the Quartu Sant’Elena council urged Cagliari to remain and work on the stadium, but it seems as if they have found another venue.
“I have been in talks with Cagliari Calcio for some time and the rapport is excellent,” revealed the sporting assessor of Rieti council Alessandro Mezzetti.
“We have given the all-clear to host Cagliari’s home games, starting from the one against Inter on April 14, and are just waiting for the response from the Lega.
“We are also discussing a long-term deal, as they are prepared to invest in the Stadio Centro d’Italia Manlio Scopigno so that it can become their home stadium for 2013-14 as well.”
Rieti is in the Lazio” data-scaytid=”57″>Lazio region and the stadium was restructured in 2010 to host 10,000.
