Massimo Cellino has revealed why he moved so quickly to appoint Massimo Ficcadenti as Cagliari boss in the summer.

Cellino sacked former Italy tactician Roberto Donadoni during pre-season and replaced him with the man who kept Cesena in Serie A last term.

"I acted so quickly to get Ficcadenti because I was worried that Palermo would take him away from us," the Rossoblu chief told Tuttosport.

"I knew that Stefano Pioli wouldn't last long at Palermo and Ficcadenti is one of the best Italian tacticians around…"

Cellino was proved right as Pioli was axed on the eve of the new campaign by Palermo. He was replaced by youth team boss Devis Mangia.

Pioli is now at Bologna, while Ficcadenti's Cagliari are joint second in Serie A – just a point behind leaders Juventus” data-scaytid=”23″>Juventus and Udinese” data-scaytid=”24″>Udinese.
