The Stadio Sant'Elia outfit are looking for a new central midfielder and they, according to La Repubblica, made a bid for the 21-year-old.
However, Doria have rejected the approach after the player apparently told them that he was ready to stay even after relegation.
Cagliari are now understood to have switched their attention to Cesena midfielder Marco Parolo. A bid of €7m is understood to have been made for the latter.
