New Lazio signing Martin Caceres believes signing for the Aquile was his destiny, and sees this as a chance to “relaunch” his career.

The defender has joined the Biancocelesti after six months at Verona, choosing shirt number 22, and he was officially presented this afternoon.

“Maybe destiny was calling,” Caceres admitted in his Press conference.

“I scored my first Serie A goal against Lazio. I’m happy to be here and to discover this team. I thank Verona for the past six months, I rediscovered myself after the adventure in England [with Southampton].

“I played a lot of matches and scored a few goals, now I hope to get started here soon.

“There’s a good group here, I’ve had a great time over the past few days. These are straightforward lads. They’re having a great season and I hope we can continue like this.

“What does Lazio represent for me? A relaunch, and a very important Italian team. I’m in good shape, and Lazio are in a position they deserve to be in.

“I’ve known [Coach Simone] Inzaghi for some time, and my first impressions of him are good. I’ll have a great relationship with him, as happened in the past with all my other Coaches.”

Caceres was then asked where he sees himself fitting into the team.

“I’ve already played with Lazio’s formation in the past, at Juventus, so there will be no problems.

“I don’t have a particular role, I’m a full-back for the national team and for Verona I played in the middle. I’ll play where the boss tells me.”
