The first case of COVID-19 has been found in the finalised Euro 2020 squads, as Spain captain Sergio Busquets tested positive and has left the training camp.

The RFEF (Spanish football federation) announced the news last night.

His positive PCR test was carried out yesterday morning at the training camp, but so far the rest of the squad has tested negative.

The protocols have been activated and Busquets left the ‘bubble’ in a medically secure vehicle.

His teammates will have to go into isolation and personalised training routines are activated, a huge blow just under a week before the competition begins.

Instead, the friendly game planned against Lithuania tomorrow will be played by the Under-21 side.

This might also have a knock-on effect for Portugal, who played Spain in a 0-0 friendly draw on Friday.

It is the first COVID scare since the final Euro 2020 squads were announced.

Scotland had midfielder John Fleck test positive on Monday and another six players withdrew from the group travelling for a 2-2 friendly draw with Holland on Wednesday.

They beat Luxembourg 1-0 in a friendly yesterday.
