"The arrival of Higuain makes us stronger and more confident, but it depends on where we are heading. This mentality could be enough if the idea is to win back the Scudetto in Italy.
"But if we – as we said earlier this year – aim for raising the bar in Europe, making progress is a must.
"If I think about a quarter-final, semi-final or a Champions League final against certain teams like Bayern Munich or Barcelona, well then this is not enough. We need to take forward steps. "
"Everyone thinks this, from the technical staff, to the Coach, to the president to us players. Allegri is rightly testing new ideas because we have had so many injured and this is why why he has not been able to work continuously.
"Despite this, we have to find solutions, to do on the pitch what we have been doing in training through the week.
"I really believe in the strength and balance of the team and also in the concepts that Allegri is teaching us but we sometimes we find it hard to express them on the field."
The Captain was then asked about the role of Miralem Pjanic, and stressed that the team must help the Bosnian to realise his full potential.
"It is clear that we have changed parts of the midfield, and I do not speak of the values of an individual.
"We must find ways to exploit these new players. Miralem will make a difference because he has tremendous quality, but we as a team we have to put him in a position to show his great talent."
