Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon says his teammates 'should have offered more of a protest' against Milan when a goal was ruled out.

The Captain also stressed that his side must 'improve the quality of their play' if they are to have aspirations of winning the Champions League this term.

"Against Napoli we had the right attitude, we were not there to lose, which was essential, the veteran stopper told Gazzetta dello Sport. "We were lacking that a little bit in the past.

Buffon also lamented the fact that his teammates offered little protest when a Miralem Pjanic goal was ruled out when his side went down 1-0 to Milan at San Siro earlier this month.

"When I saw that we had scored and then 18 opposing players go to protest but nobody from our team goes with them, it makes me a little upset.

"The fact that my teammates are well educated gives me great pleasure, and I am the same, but on the other hand it is also something that I accept less willingly in this situation.

"You must always play with with respect and education, but you need to be heard once in a while.

The Bianconeri are four points clear at the top of Serie A, but resume their Champions League qualifying campaign against Lyon on Wednesday. What does Buffon think of the team need to do to push on in Europe?

"We need to improve the harmony and quality of play if we want to aspire to something more.

"We are absolutely delighted with the results gained so far, but we can not feel satisfied, because we are in October.

"Between now and May there are seven months and there’s always something you can do to improve right? Even at 70 years old you have to keep striving."
