The legendary goalkeeper left Juventus this summer to join Paris Saint-Germain, so is now an outside observer of the Italian top flight.

“I’ll confess it immediately,” Buffon began, writing on his official app.

“There’s a certain effect watching Serie A as a spectator. I was no longer used to it, I hardly remember the last time, since the last time was when I was a kid! It always has its charm though.

“Strangely I’ve not been able to see a Juventus match yet, my former teammates’ games have always been at the same time or very close to PSG’s.

“It certainly doesn’t surprise me though to see [Coach Max] Allegri’s team on maximum points. Hunger, and the desire to reach new objectives are always at the centre of the project.

“As for Napoli, the squad has remained in tact so the big change has been the arrival of an expert, winning Coach like Carlo Ancelotti.

“In the two comeback wins over Lazio and Milan I have seen a lot of Carlo's character.”

The other side sitting joint-top is Spal…

“Being in the lead is definitely not their objective, but it’s really pleasing for old romantics like me, who from a young age watched Scoglio’s Genoa or the Pescara of Galeone.

“We’re only at the start, I wish a good season to everyone!”
