Gigi Buffon says Juventus “have so much respect for Sevilla” but are targeting the “big objective” of winning their Champions League group.

The Bianconeri will advance to the Last 16 of the Champions League with a win in Spain tomorrow night, but the goalkeeper isn’t taking anything for granted.

The Bianconeri will advance to the Last 16 of the Champions League with a win in Spain tomorrow night, but the goalkeeper isn’t taking anything for granted.

“We have so much respect for Sevilla,” Buffon told reporters in the pre-match Press conference.

“They’re a team who have achieved almost unthinkable results at the European level in recent years.

“We know that they’ll play hard against us, and we know it’ll be a very difficult game, and a very hard-fought one.

“But we’re also playing for something which isn’t a small target, but a big objective because even though we’re already qualified, which was our intention, now that we have an even greater opportunity it would be a shame not to take it and have regrets after the game.”

Juventus didn’t win the group last season and went all the way to the final, surely they have nothing to fear in the draw?

“Let’s say that a certain Juve, with the right mentality and without any conceit or arrogance, is a Juve that can give anyone a game, and we showed that last year.

“This year, unlike other years in Europe, we’ve come up with the right answers in the critical moments.

“That was the most comforting thing, it reminded me that even in the most difficult moments we’re still a good team, even if we were maybe going through a negative period, a transition.

“When you win at Manchester City, when you beat a team like Sevilla without conceding that means you’re a strong team.

“After that we maybe had to find a bit of consistency, and I hope we’ve found that now.

“I’ve been here for a few years, so this is definitely the team which – at least in the last 15 years – plays European games the most like when I first joined Juve and we got to the final in Manchester with a very important journey and the scalps of the top teams.”
