Juventus captain Gigi Buffon discussed Patrice Evra, Paul Pogba and why Zinedine Zidane has “a bright career as a Coach” ahead of him.

The Italy goalkeeper spoke to RMC Sport when receiving his Golden Foot award.

“I don’t know if Evra will be called up again by Didier Deschamps, but I can say that Patrice cares a great deal about the team. At Juve, we often talk about our experiences with different teams or national sides.

“Right now he is training very well and is in good shape. I think when a player like him trains with professionalism and desire, then one day life will give him the satisfaction he deserves.”

Buffon is still going strong 10 years after the 2006 World Cup, but Zidane has become a Coach at Real Madrid. Did he see that coming?

“Zidane has an extraordinary profile and any Coach who comes on to the European stage for the first time and immediately wins the Champions League means he has something extra! He has qualities that go beyond the normal.

“I think all of this suggests Zidane will have a very bright career as a Coach.”

Former Juve teammate Pogba is struggling to make his mark at Manchester United after a world record transfer fee of €105m plus bonuses.

“Seasons are long and we are only in the second month out of 11. I smile when I hear people say in September that Pogba is not good enough. We can only take stock at the end of the campaign.

“It’s like with horses in a race, it doesn’t matter who is leading halfway round, but who gets past the finish line first.”
