The full list of 30 will be announced by France Football magazine today, and the veteran stopper was among the first group of five players to be revealed. He was joined by Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of Borussia Dortmund, and Real Madrid duo Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Buffon had faced some recent criticism for mistakes whilst on international duty for the Azzurri against Spain, and for club side Juventus against Udinese, but responded with an incredible performance in the Champions League against Lyon last week.

The ceremony is due to be held on January 9, 2017.
