Gigi Buffon assures “Italy’s strength has always been our group” ahead of the European Championships.

The Azzurri are without key men such as Marco Verratti and Claudio Marchisio, and it has been suggested they could endure a disappointing time in France.

“This national team is a good group with great technical staff,” Buffon reassured Undici.

“We haven’t been particularly lucky with the injuries to Verratti and Marchisio, but Italy’s strength has always been our group.

“Whoever replaces Marco or Claudio will do it to the best of their ability and with the utmost commitment.

“There’s no hangover from the 2014 World Cup, if anything that’s given us even more experience to draw on.”

The legendary goalkeeper was also asked about his club side, having captained Juventus to yet another Scudetto.

“Being captain of Juventus means representing a style, an atmosphere, a group. I can only be happy to be an important figure in this team.

“I’m even more happy that the fans of Juventus are proud for me to represent them.”
