Gianluigi Buffon concedes that there’s “an exaggerated tactical aspect” to Serie A and “sometimes the spectacle can suffer”.

The veteran left Juventus for Paris Saint-Germain in the summer, and he spoke to Canal Plus about the change in his career.

“The reception I’ve received in France sometimes even surpasses what I get in Italy,” Buffon revealed.

“That’s very important for me, because moving abroad and being treated this way doesn’t happen to everyone. It’s beautiful.

“Juventus? I think that life is beautiful and there are certain journeys can end in a nice way. In this case PSG gave me an opportunity and I accepted gladly, because I think I can do a good job here.

“In my opinion Ligue 1 is more physical, but in some ways technique is favoured here. In Serie A there’s an exaggerated technical aspect and an exaggerated tactical aspect.

“Sometimes the spectacle can suffer. When you come and watch PSG, you can watch Neymar show off the skills he has, and the same for [Kylian] Mbappé and [Angel] Di Maria.

“Above all there’s a style of football that lets you show what you can do, and people like that.

“The players who struck me? I didn’t know Lilian Thuram’s son, Marcus, well – the first time I saw him he was a month old!

“When we played against Guingamp I saw a very strong player, physically as well as technically, and in my opinion he’s a player who can do good things.

“The player who I’ve liked the most though is [Memphis] Depay, the Lyon forward. I liked him a lot.”

The one major trophy Buffon is yet to win is the Champions League, and he was asked about that.

“I’m here to improve. I’ve played in three Champions League finals and I’d like to learn how to win it.

“I’ve got to be honest, I’d have been happy to win it but I think in the last two finals we met stronger teams and lost on merit.

“As we say in Italian, ‘hope is the last thing to die’. I’ve come here to improve, and to use my experience to help the level of the team and, maybe, improve the results PSG have had up to now.

"Do I feel like an ambassador for Italy? No, I've just been lucky enough to have fun and find the right job for me, which has given me a lot of satisfaction and brought me a certain level of popularity.

"I hope I can be a symbol of positivity and pride for Italy."

Buffon is well known for the passion with which he sang the national anthem when he played for the Azzurri.

"I sing it like that because I really believe in history and the sacrifice people have made. In all wars, and in all nations, many men have died and sometimes for nothing.

"I sing for them, to say thank you."
