Gigi Buffon said Juventus should “not get ahead of ourselves” after the 1-0 victory away to Serie A leaders Napoli and thanked Gonzalo Higuain.

“I am satisfied, but also know that we are still second with an extra game and tomorrow risk being third. That means tonight’s game has to be a starting point and we certainly shouldn’t get ahead of ourselves,” the goalkeeper told Mediaset Premium.

“We are happy, because winning here is not easy, but it’s early days. When we take on certain games with this determination, unity and focus, we are a truly solid team that could repeat its success yet again. It’s not easy to bring these ingredients to the field every time.”

Higuain played despite only undergoing surgery for a fractured bone in his hand on Monday and scored the decisive goal against his old club.

“Pipita has been on stunning form for the last two months and it would’ve been a shame to lose him for a game like this. The fact he gave his commitment and contribution through the pain means a lot to us.”

With this result, Juventus are right back in the thick of the title race and only one point off Napoli.

“We know that in certain conditions, we are still ‘us’ – but it’s not easy to do that every three days, as it involves an enormous output of energy. Yet we are still here and that is a big sign.”
