Osvaldo reportedly insulted Aurelio Andreazzoli after Roma’s 1-0 defeat to local rivals Lazio” data-scaytid=”10″>Lazio, apparently incensed at having not started the Cup final.

Andreazzoli hit back through the media before Osvaldo worsened the situation on Twitter, prompting Italy boss Cesare Prandelli to concede that he will evaluate the situation ahead of Italy’s upcoming internationals that the player has been included for.

The Azzurri’s captain has at least looked to understand Osvaldo’s outburst, and has spoken up for his past behaviour with the national team.

“There are many mitigating factors, because at stake was the Coppa Italia, whilst it was also a derby which has great emotion,” reflected Buffon to Rai Sport this Monday.

“Sometimes it is normal that someone can loose their cool.

“I have great confidence in the Coach, he will know the most appropriate course of action to be taken.

“I cannot say what our Coach will decide, I can only say that Osvaldo has always done his best with us, he has been flawless, for his commitment and in his relationships with his peers.”

Buffon was speaking on the first day that the Italian squad meet for preparations ahead of a friendly with San Marino, a World Cup qualifier with Czech Republic and then the Confederations Cup in Brazil.

“We want to prepare well ahead of the Czech Republic and then the Confederations Cup as we have the opportunity to participate in these events and we must honour the jersey and the history that we carry by trying to win.”
