Canada international Tajon Buchanan is ‘proud’ to play for Inter and says ex-Brazil international Ronaldo is his favourite Nerazzurri player of all time.
Buchanan released an interview published on Inter’s Match Programme on Monday, before a Serie A match against Genoa at the Stadio Meazza.
The Canada international joined the Nerazzurri in the January transfer window, making his Serie A debut as a substitute in a 4-0 victory over Salernitana in February.
“Brampton is my home, where it all started. It’s the city I represent,” said the Canada international as quoted by TMW.
“I fell in love with this sport when I was eight and football has become a very important part of my life. I’ve been in many cities and I feel proud when I look backwards.”
Which are the most important moments of his career so far?
“There are many. My Champions League debut against Atletico Madrid when I was at Club Brugge and my first World Cup game with Canada national team,” the 25-year-old replied.
“I always try to remember why I’ve been loving this sport and I try to have fun on the pitch. I’ve always dreamed of playing football as a professional player, so I am proud.
“Wearing this shirt means a lot, it’s a dream come true and something I’ve always worked for. Many big players played here. Ronaldo was the No.1 player I’ve always admired and a football legend.
“LeBron James is among those who have inspired me for how he works and competes daily.”
Which are the most important dates of his life?
“Surely 2021, a crucial year for me. I made my senior Canada debut and scored my first international goal in the Gold Cup semi-final.
“I’d also say November 29, 1974, when my father was born. He is why I play football, and every time I play, I know he looks at me from the sky and is proud of me.”
Buchanan is expected to start from the bench against Genoa tonight. He has made two appearances with the Nerazzurri since moving to the Stadio Meazza for €7m from Club Brugge this past January.
His contract with the Serie A giants runs out in June 2028.
The 25-year-old has made 35 appearances with Canada national team, scoring four goals.
