Roberto De Zerbi is still out of work following his departure from Shakhtar Donetsk and Brighton consider him a possible option to replace the departed Graham Potter, reports suggest.

The 43-year-old Italian coach only oversaw 30 games for Shakhtar last season before he was forced to depart due to the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine, which pushed him back to Italy. De Zerbi reportedly turned down an approach from Bologna earlier this week, wanting to wait for a more exciting project.

As reported by Calciomercato.it, Brighton are expected to contact De Zerbi in the early stages of next week to seriously discuss his possible appointment. The Italian coach is a fan of the project and healthy optimism is filtering out from both parties.

De Zerbi drew much praise for his three-year spell with Sassuolo, where he averaged 1.38 points per match across 120 matches. His exciting brand of 4-2-3-1 football would seemingly be a good fit for the Premier League side, who have been caught empty handed following Potter’s move to Chelsea earlier this week.
