Marco Borriello is almost certain to leave Cagliari after the striker was left out of their Serie A opener against Juventus.

Reports of a conflict between Borriello and Cagliari boss Massimo Rastelli emerged on Thursday, and it has now been confirmed that the veteran will not travel for Sunday’s clash in Turin.

Tuttosport explains the forward’s exclusion stems from his angry reaction to being recalled to the bench by Rastelli during the side’s 1-1 draw with Palermo in the Coppa Italia last Saturday.

Tuttosport explains the forward’s exclusion stems from his angry reaction to being recalled to the bench by Rastelli during the side’s 1-1 draw with Palermo in the Coppa Italia last Saturday.

However, the former Bianconero was eventually brought on in the 84th minute ahead of a 4-2 victory for Cagliari on penalties.

Newly-promoted Spal were quickly installed as the favourites to sign Borriello, but Tuttosport notes the Rossoblu are not prepared to release him as he only extended his contract last month.
