Fabio Borini scored in the Tyne-Wear Derby on Sunday, and the Sunderland striker has admitted that it was an ‘important goal’.

The Italian striker, who joined the Black Cats on loan for the season from Liverpool, netted against bitter rivals Newcastle yesterday.

“The goal was certainly important,” he told Rete Sport. “More for the team than for me personally.

“The goal was certainly important,” he told Rete Sport. “More for the team than for me personally.

“We want to get out of what has been a difficult moment, and it was a great thrill to make that happen.”

Borini was then asked about his brief spell at Roma, and their successful start to the season.

“I had a great time at Roma. It was probably my best year in football, even though I had two injuries.

“I try and watch them as much as I can, but I do not regret leaving.”
