Bonucci had originally been allowed time off to ‘rest’ and spend time with his family, as his son Matteo is still struggling with an undisclosed condition.
However, a note from the club this morning confirmed Bonucci was being hastily recalled into the squad for the match.
That is because Chiellini suffered a muscular injury in his left thigh during this morning’s training session.
The extent of the injury will only be known over the next few days, but his presence against Lyon in the Champions League is in serious doubt.
It’s worth noting this is a different injury to the bruised calf muscle that forced Chiellini out of international duty for Italy’s trip to Macedonia last week.
