Leonardo Bonucci has again been sent to the sidelines after suffering from calf problems, putting him at risk of missing Juventus’ Champions League clash against Villarreal.

The 34-year-old Italian centre back did not take part in yesterday’s Coppa Italia semi-final against Fiorentina, remaining on the bench for the entirety of the match. He did play the full 90 minutes of the 3-2 win over Empoli last weekend.

As reported by Calciomercato.com, Bonucci underwent medical tests today which revealed an elongation of the soleus muscle, an issue that will require re-examination in seven days time.

The veteran defender, as well as the long-absent Alex Sandro, is working now to be fit in time for the second leg of the Champions League Round of 16 tie against Villarreal, scheduled for March 16.

In other news, Federico Bernardeschi, Paulo Dybala and Daniele Rugani resumed partial training with the rest of the squad today. All three are hoping to be available for this weekend’s match against Spezia. Denis Zakaria is still expected to be absent and Giorgio Chiellini is still out.

  1. A while ago i thought we had our centrebacks for the next 5-10 years but after selling demiral and the argie it became clear we cashed in and and opened ourselves up for setbacks instead. That pairing along with the unsustainable de ligt would have been terrifying after they got the handballs and other silly penalties out of their system.
