Daniele Bonera has revealed Brahim Diaz could start against Fiorentina and is convinced Zlatan Ibrahimovic will ‘soon’ return to action.

The Rossoneri are the Serie A table leaders and face Fiorentina at the San Siro on Sunday.

“It’s going to be a difficult game. We are in a good moment, unlikely Fiorentina but we know their value,” Bonera said at a press conference.

“It’s going to be a tough game against a strong team. We respect them and we know we have a good opportunity to win at home.”

The former defender will once again replace Stefano Pioli and his assistant coach who are positive for COVID. He discussed single players’ recent performances and whether they can start against La Viola.

“[Ante] Rebic has been conditioned from the elbow [injury]. He is not 100% fit yet. Even for his way of playing, he is a bit blocked. His qualities will emerge once he’ll be 100% fit.

“Brahim did well against Lille, he has great technical skill and vision, he could start.

“Romagnoli was available against Lille, we did different choices as we have many games ahead, he had played every match.

“We hope we can stay up there for long time, we always need commitment and desire to sacrifice, these are the most important things to remain on top."

Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Rafael Leao are also out of action but Bonera is convinced they will soon return to action.

“He will undergo new exams next week, he is in a good mood, he makes us hope he can return as soon as possible.

“Leo did a new medical check this week, it was pretty positive. Doctors are happy with his developments, he will have a new check next week."

Bonera believes Sandro Tonali will soon become an important player for the Rossoneri.

“He is impriving, we often speak with him, we rely on him. He assisted Rebic and Thursday and he has everything to improve on daily basis. We are here to make him become a regular starter.”
