Milan midfielder Giacomo Bonaventura will be out for the remainder of the season, his surgeon confirms.

After the defeat to Udinese, the 27-year-old was diagnosed with a lesion to his left adductor longus tendon and his surgeon admitted that it would be next season before the Italian international was back in the side.

"I think he will return to play next season," Dr. Sakari Orava told Gazzetta dello Sport.

"Unless something unexpected happens during the operation. I operated on a similar injury for the skier Peter Fill before the Vancouver Games.

"He returned four months later.

"In football, however, you probably can’t make such a quick comback."
