Zvonimir Boban says the Derby della Madonnina is like no other as he remembers Milan’s “crazy” 6-0 victory over Inter.

San Siro plays host to the first Milan derby of the season this Saturday, and Boban instructed the Rossoneri players to “relax” against their city rivals.

“When explaining football, it’s often said that there are no words to describe certain moments and the derby is certainly one of these,” he told Milan TV.

San Siro plays host to the first Milan derby of the season this Saturday, and Boban instructed the Rossoneri players to “relax” against their city rivals.

“When explaining football, it’s often said that there are no words to describe certain moments and the derby is certainly one of these,” he told Milan TV.

“If you haven’t played it, you don’t really understand it and even if you played it, you can’t describe the strength, passion and also the pressure that accompanies this match.

“Then, if you’re brave and have character, as soon as you touch the ball for the first time, everything disappears.

“In other games you have to look for extra motivation, but in this one it’s almost the opposite: you have to try to relax because otherwise you risk being overwhelmed by emotion. This is a unique derby.”

The Croat is now a director for the Diavolo but was part of their side who thrashed Inter 6-0 in May 2001…

“That 6-0 was crazy. There was also a 5-0 in the Coppa Italia, but it’s not the same thing.

“We also had defeats, but the victories give you great emotions. They’re the ones you always want to remember.

“It’ll be a different kind of emotion for me as a director. Milan is a city that experiences derby in a crazy way, everyone lives it.

“Even those who aren’t interested in football live through a derby as if they’d always been in love with football.

“As a director it’s different than as a footballer, and I’m sincerely trying to stay calm and see things with footballing logic so we can all improve together.”
