Boateng completed a shock switch to Barca from Sassuolo on Monday evening and was officially unveiled by his new club the following afternoon.

“I want to enjoy my time here and win everything. Thank you very much for the opportunity,” began the former Milan attacker.

“I haven’t come to be a starter because there are excellent players already here. Instead I come to bring experience and help the team.

“I’m almost 32, so the No 9 role is perfect for me now. I feel very comfortable in that position.

“When I was told about Barca’s interest, the feeling was incredible. I even told my Sassuolo teammates that there was no need for a plane. I could’ve run to Barcelona!

“It’s a dream, something incredible, an honour. It’s a gift to be able to play with Messi, Suárez and co. Just seeing them play is enough!

“The Coach will decide [whether I face Sevilla], but I want to play right away. if he wants me to, I feel fine.

“La Liga is the best and most attractive League in the world.”

Boateng once remarked Cristiano Ronaldo was better than Lionel Messi, so what does he think now?

“I’m a Barca player and the best player in the world is Messi, the best in the universe,” he asserted.

“He’s shown it for the last 10 years. I hope I can stay for longer.”
