Slovenian midfielder Valter Birsa has said 'he is not just passing through' at his first press conference as a Torino player.

The set piece specialist, formerly of Auxerre, joined the Granata on loan from Genoa in the very last hour of the transfer window.

“I'm happy to have arrived, I want to find out for myself how you live your football here,” Birsa told the assembled media.

The 26-year-old arrives at the Stadio Olimpico injured, but is nonetheless looking forward to working with Toro boss Giampiero Ventura.

“They told me that Ventura is a Coach who knows how to bring the best out of each player. I'm sorry to be injured before starting my new experience with Torino, but these days of forced absence will not go in vain.

“I will try to understand the teams movements as quickly as possible,” he continued. “I will give the best of myself to earn the trust that Torino have placed in me, and to try and stay here as long as possible. I may be on loan, but I do not feel as if I am passing through.”

Birsa made just nine appearances for Genoa in his debut Serie A season last term.
