Ex-Argentina manager Carlos Bilardo said tonight’s Juventus-Napoli Scudetto battle “reminds of the old days” with Paulo Dybala and Gonzalo Higuain.

“This fight for the Scudetto reminds me of the old days, when I used to come to Italy regularly, as the majority of my Seleccion players were in Serie A,” said Bilardo, who took Argentina to second place in the 1990 World Cup, in the Gazzetta dello Sport.

“From what I can see, I have to say Juve and Napoli are not in the top two because of a fluke. They thoroughly deserve to be there.

“I will watch Higuain and Dybala with pride, because they are Argentinean. They deserve the best, as they are formidable workers.

“They also present a big ‘problem’ for the current Seleccion manager, because there is an abundance of talent in attack.

“Higuain is untouchable. He had two difficult moments, things that happen for every great hitman, namely the errors in the first half against Germany in the World Cup Final and the missed penalty in the Copa America Final against Chile in 2015.

“If he had scored those two goals, he would’ve become a national hero. Napoli have given him something that so far he had been lacking – the chance to emerge as the team hero.

“He has always scored goals, but at Real Madrid there were more media-friendly characters than him.”

If Higuain has scored 24 goals in 24 Serie A games this season, then Dybala has also made a huge impact at Juventus.

“I’ve known Dybala since he trained with us in Ezeiza with the youth team. He is a shy lad, but very solid with a good family behind him.

“He played very little in Argentina and his football style is more that of Italy. We should be tracking him carefully for the Seleccion.”
