Argentina and Milan midfielder Lucas Biglia said “it won’t be the same without Italy” at the World Cup and trusts they will rebuild quickly.

The Azzurri made their debut under interim Coach Gigi Di Biagio in last night’s 2-0 friendly defeat to Argentina.

“Italy are under construction and have many quality young players, so the next few years will be important to prepare for the Euros and World Cup,” Biglia told RMC Sport.

“Friendly results don’t count for anything. I hope Italy can get back to playing in competitive games soon, because it won’t be the same without Italy at the World Cup.

“We won 2-0, but at the start of the second half we had real problems and that proves the Nazionale has quality. It’ll take a lot of work, of course, because Di Biagio has just arrived and the average age is very low.”

Biglia’s Milan teammate Patrick Cutrone made his senior Italy debut in the game, aged just 20.

“I am really happy for him and he deserves it for all he is doing at Milan.”
