Massimo Maccarone is still waiting for Serie A side Palermo to update him on his January transfer status.

The club did make the player available for a New Year move after a difficult six months in Sicily following a summer switch from Siena.

However, an injury to Mauricio Pinilla has increased Big Mac's chances of playing and he scored in the 3-0 win over Sampdoria on Thursday.

“Is he off the market? I still haven't had any official word from Palermo,” the player's agent, Paolo Fabbri, noted. “I hope that arrives soon.

“I do think that Massimo will continue to wear the Rosanero shirt, but that is just a belief right now until Palermo get in touch.

“I just hope that a new chapter has now begun for Maccarone at Palermo because a player like that can make a decisive contribution, even on a part-time basis.”

The former Italian Under-21 international has been linked with moves to Bari, Fiorentina and Juventus this month.
