Adriano Galliani could postpone his resignation as Milan general manager, but President Silvio Berlusconi will speak today.

Galliani has confirmed he will quit the club after a clash with member of the board of directors and daughter of the President, Barbara Berlusconi.

At first it was believed he would announce his resignation after the Champions League decider with Ajax on December 11.

However, the latest reports from Sky Sport Italia suggest he’ll wait until after the final game of the year, the Milan Derby against local rivals Inter, on December 22.

There was a four-hour meeting between Galliani and President Berlusconi on Friday evening and the patron is expected to speak with the media about this situation today.

He is due to attend the Milanello training session and meet with the team ahead of Sunday’s Serie A match against Catania.

According to news agency Ansa, Berlusconi was irritated with Galliani’s comments in the media.

“He could’ve come to me for clarification without raising all this controversy in the papers. This is not a good image for Milan.”

It is claimed that during last night’s dinner meeting, Berlusconi tried to convince Galliani to stay on until the end of the season, but the personality clash with Barbara Berlusconi is too severe to drag the situation out.

Paolo Maldini has been heavily linked with the post-Galliani role of technical director and his former teammate Demetrio Albertini – currently Vice-President of the Federation – could also come in to the Milan staff.

Cesare Maldini, a former Milan Coach and father of Paolo, told Al-Jazeera the negotiations were at a very advanced stage.

“I am sad for Adriano, but at the same time happy for Paolo’s return to Milan.”
