Just a week after calling the Manchester City ace a “bad apple” and suggesting that boss Allegri would leave at the end of the season, the former Prime Minister has made a sensational U-turn.
“I was misquoted,” President Berlusconi insisted when asked about the Italian international striker. “If I offended him then I apologise.
“The description was not directed at him, it was expressed in the general context of things. I was talking about the fact that you need positive individuals in the changing room.
“A bid for Balotelli? I’ve never been told about the opening of a negotiation for him. Vice-President Adriano Galliani and Allegri have also never told me that he is a target of ours.”
Berlusconi, who then defined Allegri as a “Coach of the future”, was also asked to comment on any impending buys and sales this month.
“Galliani has identified some possible signings and he’ll have to hurry up if he wants to bring them in before the window closes.
“I can’t tell you the names otherwise Galliani will have trouble signing them.
“A sale of Ignazio Abate to Zenit? No, I don’t think so. He’s our full-back and he’s very respected. He’s an international and we want to keep him at Milan.”
