Silvio Berlusconi reveals Milan considered Maurizio Sarri as Coach, and hopes Napoli win the Champions League.

The Partenopei Coach was a free agent last summer after leaving Empoli, but the Rossoneri went with Sinisa Mihajlovic instead.

“I have to compliment Napoli, they played very well,” Berlusconi said in an interview with Julie News.

“Congratulations to the great champion [Gonzalo] Higuain who scored 36 goals. I was a bit disappointed though, because he beat [Gunnar] Nordahl’s record from when he was playing for Milan.

“Congratulations to the great champion [Gonzalo] Higuain who scored 36 goals. I was a bit disappointed though, because he beat [Gunnar] Nordahl’s record from when he was playing for Milan.

“I also have to compliment Sarri, it’s true that last year he was one of the Coaches we looked at for Milan.”

Berlusconi’s political party, Forza Italia, is standing a mayoral candidate in Naples, which is perhaps why the Milan President has tipped the Vesuviani for the Champions League.

“With best wishes to the city of Naples, to Napoli and to their amazing fans, I hope the mayor is able to give Napoli a new stadium.

“As it is now, San Paolo is diminished and there’s an athletics track which keeps the fans a long way from the pitch.

“I often go to San Siro, but when I come to Naples I can’t savour the game because there’s such a big distance between the stands and the pitch.

“The other thing I hope with all my heart is that Napoli win the Champions League.”
