The patron is in the due diligence stage of negotiations to sell 70 per cent of the club to a Chinese conglomerate.

“The Chinese group want me to remain as President for another three years and I have given my blessing,” Berlusconi told Sport Mediaset.

“We are working on this. If we reach an agreement, then my last duty of a 30-year patronship will be to find the right successor for Milan.

“Could I be Honorary President? Yes, considering the person that I am and as an Honorary President I can indicate directions and decisions.

“If all of this is not possible, then I will happily keep Milan. In this transfer situation I would return to looking in-house with a team of hungry Italians, a little like Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.”

What does all of this mean for Coach Brocchi?

“If I stay, then so does he.”

Berlusconi was also asked about reports Milan are trying to bring back Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who is a free agent when his PSG contract expires.

“His costs would require Monopoly money, so it’s impossible. The next 15 days will be important. We need focus and patience to avoid getting hasty.

“Will the management change if we sell the club? I don’t know what they will want to do or how they’ll want to do it. We’ll see.”
