Juventus midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur says Gianluigi Buffon was “physically ill” after Italy failed to qualify for the World Cup.
The Azzurri were beaten by Sweden in the play-offs, meaning they won’t be in Russia this summer.
Buffon had planned to end his career at the tournament, and his Uruguayan teammate says the goalkeeper took the elimination badly.
“The Italians took it really badly,” Bentancur confirmed to Ovacion.
“It was terrible to see Buffon’s face, he was physically ill.

“With [Juan] Cuadrado and the Argentinians we joked about how the World Cup will be. [Paulo] Dybala and [Gonzalo] Higuain were joking with me and telling me we have an easy group, but they know it’s not like that.
“You have to play games and win them.
“It was very important for me to be called up for the last qualifying matches and the friendlies, the group is highly competitive.
“I’ll work every day to reach Russia.”
