Newly promoted Sampdoria will meet with Rafa Benitez on Wednesday in a fresh bid to tempt him to the port club.

Sampdoria have offered the Spaniard a three-year deal reportedly worth €2m a campaign. Various bonus clauses could see his salary rise by a further €500,000.

Benitez has been assessing the club’s proposal and has spent the last week doing his homework on the Marassi outfit.

It is understood that the former Liverpool and Inter tactician has been studying their games from this season’s successful Serie B campaign in a bid to familiarise himself with their players.

Samp won promotion through the play-offs, but boss Giuseppe Iachini is still set to be shown the door by the outfit.

Should Benitez turn down the opportunity to take over at Doria, Samp could then make a move for Didier Deschamps.

The latter’s future at Marseille is in doubt and he knows Italy well having played for Juventus, as well as bossing the Old Lady in Serie B during 2006-07.
