Brescia President Gino Corioni complained Rafa Benitez is making Napoli star Marek Hamsik “seem worthless.”

The Slovak international midfielder has looked like a shadow of his usual self for over a year now and is being linked with a January bid by Liverpool.

“Marek is not a world class player per se, but he is in the way he moves within the team and during a game,” Corioni told Radio Kiss Kiss.

“He is very good at finding the right position on the field, but he cannot give his best under Benitez. Hamsik needs to be played for what he is and not just given a few regular movements that limit his talent.”

It was Corioni who discovered Hamsik and brought him to Serie A, selling him to Napoli for €5.5m in July 2007.

“Just six months after I sold him to Napoli for €5.5m, an English President told me he wanted to buy Hamsik for €30m.

“I told De Laurentiis, but the Napoli President replied that Hamsik would not leave even for €50m. Now with Benitez, they are making him seem worthless.”
