In his first interview since becoming a Bayern Munich player, the Morocco international spoke about a number of issues, including his split from the Giallorossi.

“I discussed my future with sporting director Walter Sabatini,” Benatia has explained to Kicker.

“He told me the club wanted to hold on to me but that there was a need to sell me to make money.

“That bothered me, because I wanted to stay”.

Benatia was heavily linked with a host of clubs this summer, including Manchester City, Chelsea, Barcelona and Manchester United before signing with Bayern for €26m.

“Manchester City and Chelsea wanted me, while there were also approaches from Real Madrid and Barcelona.

“But let it be clear, I was happy to join Bayern Munich, although here it is a bit cold…”
