Rumours over Mehdi Benatia’s future at Roma are growing as the Gazzetta dello Sport believe his agent will soon meet with Barcelona.

The Moroccan international has impressed in his debut season with the Giallorossi but is reported as angling for a pay increase to push him up from a currently mid-level salary at the club.

Speculation is also continuing to grow that clubs elsewhere have taken note in the 27-year-old and are considering a summer bid.

Manchester City continue to be listed above all others as pressing for the centre-back and are seen as offering the player a €4m salary, €1.2m more a year than the €2.8m Benatia is apparently asking Roma for.

Whilst reports in England suggest that Manchester United are also now taking up interest in Benatia, the Gazzetta dello Sport report today that his agent will soon fly out to Catalonia to meet with Barcelona and discuss their intentions with regards to the player.

The pink paper, however, also suggest that Rudi Garcia has listed Benatia as one of his players considered ‘untransferable’.
