Andrea Belotti admits “Liechtenstein brings me luck,” as five of his total eight Italy goals were against these Euro 2020 opponents.

He had already scored a brace in Vaduz a couple of years ago, then was on target twice in tonight’s 5-0 victory, along with another goal on Italian turf.

“Liechtenstein brings me luck, especially playing here, as I got a brace here last time too,” the Torino striker told Rai Sport.

“We tried to do what the Coach asked, created a lot of scoring opportunities and netted five of them, so we’re happy.”

It’s a completely different team from the one that lost the World Cup play-offs to Sweden two years ago.

“You can see there’s an Italy side with more conviction, more desire to do what the Coach says and follow the very clear ideas we considered from the start to be wise. You can see we’re doing some wonderful things on the field, especially compared to the ugliness of two years ago.

“It’s right that Italy are back where we belong.”

Belotti started this evening, whereas Ciro Immobile got the centre-forward role in Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Greece.

“Ciro and I are not rivals, we are friends, we share a room for the Nazionale, we spend all our time together when on international duty and some out of it too. He’s a great person, quite aside from our profession.”
