Juventus defender Andrea Barzagli says his side will ‘go for it’ in the Champions League but cannot yet say whether the Old Lady are better equipped to win it than in previous seasons.

The Bianconeri have signed Cristiano Ronaldo, a serial winner of the competition, as they bid to become European champions for a third time.

But speaking to Sky, veteran Barzagli warns that despite the hype over the former Real Madrid man’s €100m arrival, Juve need to prove they are better on the pitch.

But speaking to Sky, veteran Barzagli warns that despite the hype over the former Real Madrid man’s €100m arrival, Juve need to prove they are better on the pitch.

“Little by little we are getting to know the new players,” the 37-year-old began.

“It will be a challenging season, like all the others. I hope we can achieve our targets.

“Clearly, it will need great sacrifice and desire.

“It will be on the pitch where this Juventus team will show whether it can be stronger than those of recent years.

“In the last two or three years, our awareness [in the Champions League] has increased.

“We will be going for it, as we have done in the last few years.”
