The Bianconeri remain within a point of leaders Napoli and extended their advantage over third-placed Inter to eight points thanks to a controversial 1-0 win away to Cagliari.

“It’s a fundamental victory for us to go all the way this season. Cagliari were so fired up, they were almost possessed, but we are happy to have just about snatched it,” the veteran defender told Sky Sport Italia.

Cagliari were furious at both the goal, as Leonardo Pavoletti was down following a clash with Medhi Benatia, and a Federico Bernardeschi handball moments later that went unpunished.

“The rules state that the referee must stop play if there is someone down injured. He saw the situation and gave the advantage. We did better in that moment and scored the goal.”
