Lega Pro side Cremonese are attempting to sign Italian 2006 World Cup winner Simone Barone.

The midfielder, still only 32, is sensationally without a club just five years after winning international football's ultimate prize.

Barone is a free agent which means he can sign for any club outside of the transfer window.

Released by Cagliari in the summer just 12 months into a three-year contract, Barone hasn't been picked up by any other club.
