Bisceglie President Nicola Canonico suggests transferring Bari’s sporting title to his club to allow them to stay in the league, but fans want “Serie D with dignity”.

The club has failed to register for next season’s Serie B due to financial problems, and will be declared bankrupt in the coming days.

Under FIGC rules, the mayor of Bari can award the sporting title to new investors, who can then start again in Serie D, the highest amateur league.

Under FIGC rules, the mayor of Bari can award the sporting title to new investors, who can then start again in Serie D, the highest amateur league.

However, if a new owner could transfer that title to an existing club, as happened when Vicenza Calcio merged with Bassano Virtus, then the new team could remain in the league.

Bisceglie President Nicola Canonico has proposed doing the same with Bari, so they could play in Serie C next season

That would likely mean merging the history of the clubs though, and the fans are not in favour.

“Serie D with dignity”, “Proud to be Baresi” and “don’t play with our Bari” are some of the banners which appeared outside the Stadio San Nicola today.
