New Roma signing Jose Angel Valdes has claimed he was also wanted by Barcelona this summer.

The left-back completed his €4.5m move from Sporting Gijon yesterday and he's been presented to the media on Wednesday.

"It's true that Barcelona came in for me, but Roma showed a desire to take a gamble on myself," he stated.

"It's a pleasure to be here and I'll work hard to do the best that I can."

The Spaniard, who has signed a contract in Rome until 2016, was specifically requested by new boss Luis Enrique.

"I've spoken to the Coach," the player continued. "He's the ideal football tactician and we'll try to apply his ideas on the pitch.

"The squad is strong and Roma are a great club. They are among the best in Europe and have many champions. I'm here to learn.

"Francesco Totti? We've met and said hello. He's a fundamental point of reference and it will be an honour to be in the same changing room as him."

The youngster also added that his idol was former Inter and Brazil international Roberto Carlos.
