After three games in Switzerland, Mario Balotelli has scored his first goal for FC Sion in a 3-1 loss to FC Winterthur.

The 32-year-old Italian striker joined the Swiss outfit in the summer from Turkish side Adana Demirspor in a deal worth around €2.62m, returning to central Europe after a positive season in the Super Lig. Balotelli scored 18 goals in 31 league appearances last season in Turkey, re-finding some form after a difficult few years.

Balotelli made no mistake from 12 yards out as he scored an equalising penalty in Sion’s clash with Winterthur today, but it wasn’t enough to salvage a result for his side as they suffered two second-half goals at home.

It was the Italian striker’s first start for the Swiss outfit following two substitute appearances in wins over Basel and St. Gallen last month.

The 32-year-old Balotelli is contracted to Sion until 2024 and will be hoping to continue his scoring in the next game against Grasshoppers next weekend.
