The hitman secured a 1-0 victory this evening with an astonishing goal, a dipping shot from almost 39 metres (43 yards) that flew into the far top corner at 91 km/h (56 mph).

“I looked at the goalkeeper and saw he was a little off his line, so I hit it with full force and fortunately it went in,” SuperMario told Sky Sport Italia.

“It’s a good goal. The Coach gives me confidence, as I am the one who has to pull the team forward and therefore it’s my duty to score these goals.

“It wasn’t a great game tonight, anything but,” he confessed.

Balotelli was asked about his tears following a substitution against Napoli last week, reportedly because he was unable to dedicate a goal to his daughter Pia, who lives in Naples.

“People look too much into my private life and I’d recommend they avoid that. I am the striker of the Nazionale, so you should let me live my life.

“Do I have a special dedication tonight? I say Happy Valentine’s Day to my girlfriend Fanny, as I love her very much.”
